I started to create websites with HTML and I was amazed how fast and beautiful you could style it with CSS. I discovered the power of dynamic site development and have produced a number of sites in PHP/MySQL so far. For the front end I use CSS and JS (mainly jQuery) to enhance the user’s experience. I experiment with grids and boilerplates, and I am extending my framework knowledge to Yii, Ruby on Rails and Django.
Programming
Shell scripting got my interest since the first time I logged in to a Unix box. I started with bash, sed and awk. Now I do most in Perl which is very powerful (syntax, regex). Next on the agenda are Ruby, Python, Javascript and compiled languages like C, C++ and Java.
Design vs and programming
I started with the design side of web, now I am more into programming. I think a good developer has to know both. Programming is fascinating. Good design is what keeps you awake. Debugging a problem, hacking together a solution, designing a new interface, creating that unique look and feel, in both areas it is all about keeping it simple yet elegant!
My Site
Since November 2009 I have my own website where I found a way to share what I am learning about programming and web technology. Disclaimer: all the ideas expressed on this site are mine, and have nothing to do with the employer I am working for or employers I have worked for.
First of all it’s a beautiful plant. It is a symbol for longevity, strength and grace. It also gets associated with simplicity and humility. I like bamboo so I thought my blog should be bamboo :)
Data mining is one of the fields I am specializing in. I started data crunching quite some time ago with Excel Pivot tables and VBA. Today data APIs are an important piece of Web 2.0. I like to discover new APIs and share my experience with you.

A few years ago I got fascinated about the web …

In September 2010 I did a complete remake of this site. Now blog and portfolio are fitted into the “bamboo theme”, a WordPress theme I designed.
Why bamboo?
First of all it’s a beautiful plant. It is a symbol for longevity, strength and grace. It also gets associated with simplicity and humility. I like bamboo so I thought my blog should be bamboo :)
Facebook API and data mining
Late 2010 I discovered the Facebook API. I made some Facebook Apps which you can see in this video demo. All hobbies really… movies? – check out Sharemovi.es, books? – share them on My Reading List, music? – listen and share it at Friends Jukebox.
